This website
The extension and the helper collect nothing. This website, ext.clipsave.link, keeps a small first-party record of how it's used, so I can see which pages help and which downloads people pick. It's stored in this site's own database. There are no third-party analytics, ads or trackers.
What it records for each visit, with a random visitor id kept in a cookie (cse_vid, one year):
- the pages you open and the page that sent you here, if any
- your browser, system and device type, read from the browser's user agent
- your language, time zone and screen size
- an approximate location (country, region, city) worked out from your IP address. The IP address itself is only kept as a salted one-way hash, used to count visitors without storing the address
Downloads through this site's download buttons and the install command (ext.clipsave.link/install.sh and
install.ps1) are counted the same way, with the file name, so I can see how many people install ClipSave.
Forms. What you type into the bug report, feature request or contact form is stored so I can read and answer it. The email address is optional on the first two and only used to reply.
Turning it off. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, none of the above is recorded: no cookie, no page views, no download counts.
Only the site's admins can see this data. It's never sold or shared. To have your records removed, write to
support@clipsave.link with your visitor id (the cse_vid cookie) or the email you used
in a form.
The extension and the helper
ClipSave for browsers (the browser extension and the ClipSave Helper). Last updated 2026-11-03.
ClipSave collects no data. It has no servers, no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no ads. Nothing about you or what you save is sent to the ClipSave project.
What stays on your computer
- The links you save. When you click the ClipSave button, the extension reads the address of the current tab, only then and only for that tab. It passes the address to the ClipSave Helper on your computer.
- Your download list (titles, addresses, thumbnails, status) is kept in the browser's extension storage on your computer, newest 30 only. Clear finished in the Downloads tab, or removing the extension, deletes it.
- The files you save go to your Movies and Music folders. Unfinished downloads are kept in your cache folder so they can resume, and removed after seven days.
Who your computer talks to
- The website of the video you save. To read and download it, the helper's copy of yt-dlp connects to that site directly, the same way your browser does when you watch it. That site's own privacy policy applies.
- The video's thumbnail, shown in the popup, loads from the website it belongs to.
- GitHub, only when you run the installer to install or update the helper.
